OLMC Celebrates Refugee Week

OLMC Celebrates Refugee Week
OLMC celebrated Refugee Week from 15-19 June. An annual activity to raise awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society.

A display was set up on the Chapel verandah, ‘Walk a Day in my Shoes’, providing a chance for our students to find out about a refugee family and the struggles they have faced. Forming the basis for our recognition of Refugee Week, Mercy Girls participated in many activities during the week including listening to speakers, conducting simulations focusing on refugee processing and sharing stories and recipes. This enabled them to reflect upon refugees and create a better understanding between different communities, encouraging successful integration, whether it be to our school community, local area or country.
