In recent years, the OLMC community has been reflecting and acting on reducing our carbon footprint and waste. In the spirit of stewardship and sustainability in the College, the EcOLMC group requested ‘paper only’ blue bins. These 8 blue bins are for PAPER ONLY. Red bins are for plastics.
The College also has a staff Sustainability Committee which was key to getting this initiative implemented.
Principal Stephen Walsh says Stewardship is taken very seriously at OLMC:
"The word steward is actually referenced in the Creation Story in the Book of Genesis when God commands that man hold dominion over and responsibility for all of his creations - the land and sea, animals, fish and birds. Stewardship is the grateful and responsible celebration of the sacred gifts God has given us to do the work He is calling us to do. This bounty of creation comes with a responsibility to care for our unique and fragile world. In today’s context, we may use terms such as the ecosystem, our total environment or even our global planet. We also speak of our need to think globally and act locally. This is in particular reference to our own OLMC locality and the litter we find in the playground or the wrong use of our colour coded rubbish and recycling bins."
