Marine Studies | 2024 - 2025 IEU Environment Grant Winners

We are thrilled to share that OLMC has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Independent Education Union of Australia (IEU) as part of the 2024-2025 Environment Grants, sponsored by Teachers Mutual Bank and the IEU. These grants support sustainability initiatives across schools, colleges, and early childhood centres each year.

Thanks to this funding, OLMC has purchased a full class set of snorkelling equipment, including masks, snorkels, fins, and reef walker shoes.

This fantastic outcome means that every student in our Marine Studies class will have access to all the gear they need — without any additional cost to parents. The equipment will be used during our snorkelling unit later this year, both in the pool for skills practice and out in the ocean to explore Sydney's incredible marine environment.

"I am so grateful to receive this grant and to have the opportunity to purchase a class set of snorkelling equipment! I can't wait to see OLMC students out in the water exploring Sydney's marine environment," Marine Studies teacher Julia Montgomery shared.

Our students are just as excited about this new equipment and the adventures that await them.

"Our class is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in our school's Marine Studies program. We are all thrilled to be part of this exciting journey ahead and we are ecstatic that the grant has provided us with snorkeling equipment to support our program." – Isabel Li (Year 9 Marine Studies student)

"I am so excited to go snorkelling to see the marine wildlife." – Anabelle Bernard (Year 9 Marine Studies student)

Congratulations to Mrs Montgomery, who successfully applied for this grant on behalf of our students. A big thank you to Scuba Warehouse in Clyde for providing this equipment at a fantastic rate.
