The Australian Debating and Public Speaking Titles and the Speakfest Titles held in Melbourne from the 23 September - 25 September, saw eight of out talented public speakers represent our College. A challenging and rewarding experience, the results were the best seen in the eight years we have participated in these competitions.
Freya Scothern (Year 8) is the Australian Junior After Dinner Speaking champion and Yasmine Alwakal (Year 10) achieved 7th overall in the Senior competition, the highest place any OLMC student has ever achieved in the overall placings. Yasmine has now qualified for the Australian team to compete at the World Titles in Shanghai in 2020!
Each entrant was required to participate in four separate competitions over three days: debating, impromptu speaking, interpretative reading and either persuasive speaking or after-dinner speaking.
All girls performed extremely well, achieving overall results unmatched in previous years. Well done to Freya, Ambeikaa Mishra, Tijana Pavlovic and Ainslie McNally (Junior team) and Yasmine, Veronica Chacty, Daphne Fong and Anne Nguyen (Senior team).
Congratulations to these Mercy Girls on such wonderful results!
