2017 USA Trip

2017 USA Trip

In the September holidays, 39 students and 6 staff travelled to the USA for the OLMC Art, Design and Dance Tour.

It was a wonderful learning experience where students immersed themselves in the culture and history of another country.

Some highlights of the trip included visits to The Metropolitan Art Museum, The 9/11 Memorial Museum and our sister school Our Lady of Mercy Academy, along with being on stage after a Broadway show!

Below is a reflection from Katarina Butler about the visit to the Mercy school, written on the day of the visit.

This morning we paid a visit to our sister school, Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset. They were very welcoming as we followed them to their classes for the day. I attended French, Algebra and Theology classes and found out more about American schools.

The OLMA girls were excited to hear our Australian accents, asking us to pronounce different words for them. They were disappointed to hear that we don’t ride kangaroos to school and that dropbears were fake, but managed to contain their disappointment and be wonderful hosts.

There were many differences between our school and theirs, but we also saw many similarities. They still hold the same vision of Catherine McAuley, and our core beliefs are much the same.

We had to leave much too soon and were fare-welled with delicious cookies and stickers, some of us receiving small gifts from our ‘shadows’ for the day.
