Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award Winner

On Tuesday, 25 March 2025, the 2024 Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award was presented to Leesa Topic (Mulhall, Class of 1984).

Leesa is recognised for her unwavering advocacy for mental health education and reform in first responder practices. Described by her classmate, Mary-Anne Stenning (Ignacz, Class of 1984) as courageous, Leesa embodies the Mercy values of compassion, justice, and service, reflecting the legacy of Catherine McAuley.

"Catherine McAuley dedicated her life to service, particularly supporting those who were oppressed and marginalised in society. Her legacy inspires me daily and drives my commitment to advocacy by standing up for those who are less fortunate or unable to speak for themselves. It is our responsibility to be a voice for the voiceless," Leesa Topic.

The Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award is presented annually to an exceptional former student. Established in 2009, this award recognises and celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of the OLMC alumnae community. Any former student may nominate another for the award by submitting a written nomination to College Principal, Lucie Farrugia.

2025 Open Day | Thank You

We want to extend a special thank you to the members of the OLMC Alumnae Committee who supported OLMC at our annual Open Day on Sunday, 2 March. Our dedicated alumnae served as College ambassadors in the historic Stanley Rooms. This area of the school is, primarily, our most historical space and our potential new families delighted in meeting our alumnae representatives and seeing the displays of items like old uniforms and previous editions of the Misericordia.

A big thank you to the alumnae who shared archival information and personal stories from their time at OLMC with our visitors. Your contributions made the day even more memorable and special for everyone involved.

Patrick O'Hagan, the well-known Irish tenor, gave OLMC the privilege of a visit in 1955. He performed some popular Irish tunes, thrilling the audience with quick, lilting songs.

Frances Mullane, Dux of the College in 1965, was placed in he first 200 in the state at the Leaving Certificate Examination of that year. What a fantastic achievement!

Year 12 enjoyed a three-day retreat at Kurrajong Heights. The retreat was described by a student as: "the best, everyone will probably never forget it. It was great being all together for a few days. The last retreat was one to remember and lots of fun."

The Class of 2005, ably led by Frances Egan (Head Girl) and Jessica Stone (Assistant Head Girl) organised and ran assemblies this year introducing, for the first time, the "virtual assembly", the new "OLMC Idol" and the short film festival " Quick Flicks."

Class of 2015

Geography students from the Class of 2015 embarked on an unforgettable journey to the snow for their class trip. Between snowball fights, hot chocolates, and building a snowman while belting out Let It Go, the experience was nothing short of magical. As Fionn Byrne and Rebecca Ibrahim put it, it was “one of the best trips of our schooling life.”
