2018 Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award Announced

At a College Assembly in mid-May, the Alumnae Association presented the 2018 Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award to Dr Melissa Hunfalvay (1991) in recognition of her achievements. Dr Hunfalvay travelled to Australia from her home in Washington DC to accept the award.

In her speech, she shared her experiences as a student at OLMC, the challenges she faced as a tennis player, coach and mentor and, ultimately, her scientific research on eye movement as an indicator of physical health.

You will be able to read more about Dr Hunfalvay in the Semester 1 OLMsCene magazine.

Alumnae share the Mercy Story on Open Day

Alumnae Committee members were joined by over 20 alumnae from a range of graduating years at the College's 2019 Open Day. The Open Day event showcases the range of opportunities and resources offered by the College and its facilities.

The personal stories and anecdotes shared by Open Day Ambassadors with our visitors provided insights to an education in the Mercy tradition offered at OLMC Parramatta.

Thank you to all alumnae who volunteered their time to help out. It was lovely have a record number of ex-students present.

Catherine McAuley Award Nominations Open

Introduced in 2009, the Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award is a way of acknowledging and celebrating the great achievements of the OLMC Alumnae community.

For the past nine years, the OLMC Parramatta Alumnae has given an award to an ex-student who, in the years since she left the College, has made a difference, through her influence or service, to those whose lives she has touched.

All ex-students are invited to consider nominating a fellow classmate who meets the criteria for nomination, and whose story would be an inspiration to current students for the 2019 Award.

Nominations for the 2019 Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award close on July 31, 2019.

The Alumnae Committee and College Principal will formally advise the successful Award recipient and their nominator of the decision in November. The Catherine McAuley Alumnae Award will be presented at a College Assembly early in 2020.

Mercy Tree supports Women's Community Shelters

Women's Community Shelters (WCS) are the 2019 beneficiary of Mercy Tree Fundraising.

WCS works with local communities to provide more safe havens for women (and their children). WCS offers vulnerable women at risk of homelessness or domestic violence shelter, active case management, support, dignity, self-esteem and a chance to start anew, through the establishment, operation and/or supervision and support of Women’s Community Shelters and transitional housing.

WCS is currently working to establish and open a women’s shelter in Parramatta, which is due to open later in 2019.

CEO of WCS Annabelle Daniel said fundraising by OLMC would have a huge impact by allowing WCS to do more of what they do; “Every time we open a shelter, it’s full within a week and, with the help of the OLMC community, we can continue to offer more bed nights to more women and children in a safe and secure environment.”

You are invited to make a donation to the 2019 Mercy Tree Appeal.
