Year 11 Design and Technology Update

Students in Year 11 Design and Technology have recently submitted their first task. Based on an in-depth study of a chosen designer this task allows students to explore their creative design process.

As part of this project, students selected and researched an Australian or international designer, creating an informative digital presentation and a visual representation product inspired by their selected designer’s style. The project emphasised creativity, innovation, and technical skills, requiring students to use computer-based technologies to communicate their findings effectively.

Additionally, the design brief required students to create a mock design space to showcase their chosen designer at the Powerhouse Museum in Parramatta. This offers a unique opportunity to celebrate emerging talent while paying homage to influential designers in the industry.

Prototype models with curves were a highlight and all students expanded their technical skills and learned how to score plywood using the Trotec Laser Printer.

"This task prepared us for the HSC by exploring the design process, portfolio writing, and using equipment like the Trotec laser printer. I learned about my chosen designer, Glenn Murcutt, and gained skills in prototyping, material selection, and refining ideas for my final submission." - Elizabeth Samuel (Year 11).
