Our public speakers have had a long list of major successes over the years and there's now slowing them down.
Ananya Karthik of Year 10 has just been declared the National Winner of the Menzies Institute Public Speaking Competition. This was a most challenging competition, requiring a six-minute speech based on one of the values of Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, to be submitted in writing. The concepts were highly sophisticated. Ananya's speech talked about the importance of respectful debate in a true democracy.
Of all the entries, only three were selected to be presented on Zoom to a panel of judges. Ananya worked exceptionally hard and delivered the speech with no palm cards or prompts of any kind. She truly deserved to be announced the champion.
Ananya awarded a substantial monetary prize. In late November, she will be flown down to Melbourne University to present her speech to an International Conference of Historians. This an exceptional achievement by any standards.
Ananya will be delivering the speech at the next College assembly. Congratulations to her on this amazing success.
