OLMC is proud to launch our new College hat, a significant addition to the uniform designed to protect students from the harsh Australian sun. This project, months in the making, was made possible by the generous support of the P&F, Alumnae Association, and our Student Representative Council. The hat features UV-blocking technology and will be a compulsory part of the summer uniform.
The design was created in collaboration with the 2023/2024 student leaders to ensure it meets both style and practical needs. Skin cancer is a real concern in Australia, with two in three Australians being diagnosed in their lifetime, so this initiative is a crucial step in promoting sun safety for all our students.
We were also fortunate to have Kirstie Fitzpatrick, a passionate skin cancer ambassador and advocate, as our guest speaker at our College Assembly this week. Kirstie shared her personal journey with skin cancer and offered valuable insights into the importance of sun safety, the effects of unhealthy tanning trends, how to incorporate SPF use in your daily routine, and early detection.
OLMC is excited to take this step toward a safer, sun-smart future for all.
