Over 40 passionate students from Years 10, 11, and 12, along with members of ecOLMC, came together for a powerful afternoon of discussion, collaboration, and climate leadership at OLMC’s own Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) on Thursday, 22 May.
Run under the United Nations Youth Climate Network (YOUNGO), LCOY is a youth-led initiative that empowers young people to take action on climate change. This national event was hosted at OLMC by UNICEF and our very own UNICEF Young Ambassador, Ashwini Aravinthan (Year 12).
Students had the opportunity to work in groups to:
- Share their experiences with climate issues that matter to them
- Connect with like-minded youth passionate about sustainability
- Contribute their ideas to Australia’s National Youth Climate Statement, which informs the Global Youth Statement presented at the UN COP climate negotiations
The energy and enthusiasm in the Brigid Shelly Building was inspiring. Students didn’t just attend - they engaged, questioned, and spoke up for the future they want to see.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this incredible opportunity to lead, learn, and be heard.
