Evatt Competition: Where Debating Meets Diplomacy, Negotiation and Strategy

Evatt Competition: Where Debating Meets Diplomacy, Negotiation and Strategy

17 of our students took part in the Evatt Model United Nations Competition, a national debating-style competition that challenges young people to step into the shoes of international diplomats, from the 5 - 26 May.

Working in pairs, students represent one of the fifteen current UN Security Council member states, negotiating to resolve real-world threats to international peace. Delegates are required to research, present arguments, propose amendments, and vote on final resolutions—all while upholding their assigned country’s foreign policy and national interests.

One of our participating teams, Ananya and Disha, represented Somalia and explored complex global issues including global vaccine access and international tourism. Reflecting on the experience, Ananya said:

“Attending the Evatt Model UN debate was an incredible experience. It provided a unique opportunity to socialise, meet new people, and engage in meaningful discussions with like minded individuals. The event allowed me to step into the shoes of world leaders, gaining a deeper understanding of the complex decision making processes that shape our global community. Whether you do public speaking often, or are completely new to public speaking, this event offers an incredible platform to develop your ability to think strategically and work diplomatically, as you build confidence and connect with others. It was a great opportunity to learn about how the UN works. We loved representing our country and working for their interests.”

We are proud of all our delegates who took part and look forward to seeing more students participate in future Model UN events.

This Just In: Congratulations to Matilda Webb and Haynin Lai who have both made it through to the semi-finals of the prestigious UN EVATT Competition - a huge achievement! We wish them all the best as they prepare for the semi-finals on Saturday, 14 June.
