Charmaine Ledden Lewis Visit

Charmaine Ledden Lewis Visit

Warami

Our Year 7 and 8 students had the privilege of welcoming award-winning illustrator and proud Bundjalung woman, Charmaine Ledden-Lewis, to our school. Charmaine is best known for her work on the beautifully illustrated and moving book on the topic of the Stolen Generation, Found, written by Bruce Pascoe, as well as Born to Run, by Cathy Freeman.

Charmaine’s visit supported learning across the curriculum, particularly in Visual Arts and English by enriching students' understanding of illustration as a narrative form, deepening their appreciation for visual literacy, and encouraging them to explore the stories behind the images they encounter. Most significantly, Charmaine’s insights offered a meaningful opportunity to expand students’ understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, culture, and connection to Country -- an essential part of our shared history and future.

We are incredibly grateful to Charmaine for her time and the inspiration she has shared.
